Dharma
River: Journey
of a Thousand Buddhas
Dharma River and Prajna Earth are the first two films in The
Yatra Trilogy from director John Bush. The
series explores the great cultural and religious treasures of
SE Asia, journeying to ancient temples, mystical landscapes and
wondrous shrines -- many of them UNESCO world heritage sites.
Dharma River, the first film in the series, was shot entirely
on location in Thailand, Laos, and Burma. Coursing over the canals
of Bangkok, the film first travels to the revered Emerald Buddha,
and then heads north, to the gilded temples and hill tribes of
Chiang Mai. Following the fabled Mekong River, viewers enter
mythic buddha caves and visit a sacred Shangri-La city, then
journey on to the holy pagodas of Burma and the dreamscape of
Pagan. The film concludes with a radiant passage down the Irawadday
River. Prajma Earth, the second film in the cycle explores the
lost spiritual civilization of Angkor in Cambodia, including
the magnificent Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world.
Voyaging on to sacred nature sites in Bali and Java -- including
scenes of trance dancing in the jungles of Java -- viewers finally
climb the seven level mandala wonder of Buddhist Borobudur. $25.00

Wheel of Time
Werner Herzog
Werner Herzog's gorgeously
photographed look at the largest Buddhist ritual in Bodh Gaya,
India. It is said that Buddha found enlightenment under a tree
in Bodh Gaya and today, Buddhist monks are ordained in this holy
place. Herzog magically captures the lengthy pilgrimage (which
for some, is over 3,000 miles), the monk's creation of the beautiful
and intricate sand mandala (the wheel of time) along with many
secret rituals that have never been seen before on film. He delivers
a personal and introspective look at what Buddhism really means
to its most ardent followers, as well as giving outsiders an intimate
look into a fascinating way of life.

Prajna Earth:
Journey into Sacred Nature
John Bush
"I first journeyed to Asia in 1970. There I found that
even in a time of war and tumult, practices for inner peace and
social harmony were alive in Buddhist teachings. This understanding
has informed my work ever since. In making THE YATRA TRILOGY,
I wanted to create a new kind of viewing experience that would
allow someone to have a direct encounter with the sacred spaces
of southeast Asia. They have their own presence, and I wanted
them to speak for themselves. This timeless art and architecture
is part of the world's cultural heritage. It's important to archive
these things, to share them." Director John Bush $24.95
